There are at least five actions that the United States can and should take to seize the opportunity presented by Andrej Babiš’s recent electoral victory in Czechia.
On 3–4 October 2025, parliamentary elections will be held in Czechia, with political change widely expected. The clear frontrunner is the ANO movement of pragmatic-populist leader Andrej Babiš, polling between 30–35%.1 He will likely be the one tasked with forming the next government.
As the Babiš government progresses into 2026, the balance between fiscal constraints, administrative capacity and political continuity will determine whether Czechia can successfully execute its long-term transformation agenda and convert strategic ambition into measurable economic outcomes.
For analyzing the framing of Andrej Babiš as a populist leader, we used the following coding scheme. Two researchers were involved in the coding, and a basic reliability test was performed on the first coded articles.
